Shelby Farms park on the east end of the city, is the largest metropolitan park in the USA, with miles of biking, walking and running trails. Shelby farm also contains the multi-million dollar children's playground - the Woodland Discovery Playground. The Memphis Botanical Gardens are also a beautiful year-round natural haven of art beauty, and is right across the street from the Dixon Art Gallery and Gardens.
Outside town is Shelby Forest State Recreation area, and across the state visitors can travel by car to Gatlinburg in the Smokey Mountains.
Memphis enjoys a vibrant and unique night life, with rock and roll, blues, country, hip-hop, bluegrass, juke joints, virtually every type and style of music is celebrated in the numerous live venues throughout the city. As many international visitors know, Memphis was frequented by many of the all-time greatest musicians, and there are many nostalgic bars and restaurants that are alive with the legacy of them all.
